Dog Rescued From Sewer In Westchester: 'Sweet Boy' Now Up for Adoption

A dog who somehow became lost in the sewers of Westchester is now up for adoption after he was rescued by police officers.

The dog, named Leonardo, was rescued from a sewer pipe in New Rochelle late at night after officers from the city's police department noticed that he was underground, the Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle said in a social media post on Saturday, April 8.

After finding Leonardo, officers managed to coax him out by sharing their dinner with him. Once he was back above ground, police discovered that he was wearing a harness and leash but had no ID or microchip.

They then called the Humane Society, who took him into their shelter.

Described as a "sweet boy," Leonardo often gets excited about walks, the Humane Society said.

As for how he ended up in the sewer in the first place? It's still a mystery.
